The Southern Oregon Renegades ran the Valley Mustangs out of Spiegelberg Stadium in their home opener on Saturday. Literally. The Renegades rolled up 344 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground, coasting to a 66-0 victory over the Mustangs of Auburn, Wash. The Renegades’ leading rusher Kris Butler accumulated 131 yards on seven carries and found the endzone four times. Alvin Thornton had 93 yards on 12 attempts and two touchdowns. Andres Reed added 75 yards and a TD for the Renegades (2-0). On defense, the Renegades were just as impressive. They limited the Mustang offense to just eight total yards and kept the passing game from getting any kind of rhythm with five interceptions. The Renegades will travel to face North King County Wildcats of Washington next Saturday. Their next home game will be Aug. 2. The Renegades are a first-year minor league football team and part of the North American Football League.
